Long, strong nails are a clear sign of good health, so it’s no wonder that so many of us try our best to grow ours to a good length. Long nails also enhance the beauty of your hands, and provide a much more attractive base for nail varnish, helping you to show off your new colour or design in its best light. The problem is, trying to grow your nails is a lot harder than it should be. You might find that you’re only managing to grow one nail to a decent length before it succumbs to the same fate as the rest of your nails and ends up snapping clean off. While this might just be down to your lifestyle – if you do a lot of cleaning or washing up, for instance, or your job involves typing on a keyboard all day – it could equally be a sign that you’re not managing to take in the nutrients that your nails need for healthy growth. Luckily, promoting nail growth is really easy, and usually just requires a bit of diligence and patience on your part. There’s no need to resort to spending money on expensive nail growth products – which probably won’t work, when you could take matters into your own hands using ingredients you most likely have lying around in your cupboard. Lower Breast Cancer Risk by Eating More Onions and Garlic Natural Cures
Have you ever tried eating raw garlic or onions? Besides leaving an amazing aroma in your kitchen, eating garlic and onion can also be amazing to prevent breast, prostate, lungs, and stomach cancer. Did you know that? A study done in Puerto Rico with 660 women who had breast cancer for the first time, or that didn't have a history of cancer, showed that those women who ingested more than a portion of raw onions and garlic a day had 67% less chances of developing breast cancer. Funnily enough, eating cooked garlic and onions, or in any other way, doesn't give the same benefits. To the researchers, it happens because the antioxidants that prevent and fight cancer are destroyed when heated. Still according to the researchers, being exposed to diallyl disulfide and S-allylmarcaptocystein, compounds found in garlic and onions are the ones responsible for the characteristic smell of these ingredients, is what prevents that cells from dividing uncontrollably, causing cancer. Allicin, present in garlic, inhibits the uncontrolled cell division. However, when heated to 212 F for 40 to 60 minutes, these compounds are reduced. Interesting, isn't it? But, for Dr. Simon Vincent, the research director, even though the results of this study are intriguing, more studies are necessary. Only this way, they can come to more precise conclusions about how ingesting raw onions and garlic can reduce the risk of breast cancer. According to the BBC, the same study was done on men in 2002. According to this research, done on more than 700 men and published by the National Cancer Institute of the United States, garlic and onion can help reduce the development of prostate cancer in men. At that time, they examined the diets of 230 men who suffered from prostate cancer, and 471 other men who didn't have the disease. According to the study, the risk of developing prostate cancer for men who eat more garlic and onion is 50% smaller than for those who don't eat them. So, keep in mind that, even though their smell and looks aren't very great, ingesting garlic and onion is linked to a smaller risk of developing breast or prostate cancer. It is worth it to remember that people who eat more than 0.35 oz. of onion, garlic, scallion, and shallots (a type of onion we have seen before), would have fewer chances of developing this disease. Bloating happens when the gastrointestinal tract gets filled with air, and it often causes stomach pain, gas, and sometimes even vomiting. If you’re bloated, you may notice that your stomach is inflated in size, and you feel consistently full throughout the day. It’s common to feel the increased urge to burp or break wind when you’re bloated, as a result of the trapped gas trying to escape from your body. The frustrating reality is, while bloating is really common, there is often no definite cause for the disorder, as it can stem from so many different issues (or a combination of a few). Namely, you might find yourself becoming bloated from eating too quickly, eating certain “trigger” foods, illness or digestive disorders such as IBS, food intolerance, or even a bacterial imbalance. See why it’s so difficult to pinpoint the cause of bloating? Luckily, you don’t necessarily need to know what’s caused your bloating to be able to get rid of it. And, in fact, there are much better solutions for warding off bloating in the long run if you’re not a fan of reaching for the medication whenever you get the feeling of trapped gas. No1 Don’t eat too quickly The problem with eating too quickly is that it’s the easiest way to end up swallowing a whole lot of unwanted air alongside your food. Try getting into the habit of eating more slowly, or practice mindful eating, the act of reaching a state of full physical and mental awareness while eating. IN this video I’m going to show you What are the Causes & Symptoms of a Torn Meniscus? There is no doubt about it, knee injuries are painful – and a torn Meniscus is no different. Not only can a torn Meniscus be painful, but it can also be debilitating, preventing you from doing daily tasks that you would usually do. The bad news is that this type of injury is not rare. In fact, it’s one of the most common knee injuries that doctors see. But what exactly is your Meniscus, how do you know if you’ve torn it, and when should you see a doctor? What is a Meniscus? In its simplest terms, the meniscus is a piece of cartilage in your knee. This cartilage helps to provide a cushion and stability for the joint that is subject to wear and tear from everyday life. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much to damage the meniscus – one wrong twist of the knee and the meniscus can easily be torn. This is why Meniscus tears are so common in athletes that are constantly running and changing directions. With that being said, older athletes are at a heightened risk of a tear, as the meniscus tends to get weaker as we age. How do you know if you have a torn Meniscus? A torn meniscus can be associated with a variety of symptoms including: • A sudden popping sensation in the knee • Knee stiffness • Knee swelling • Knee pain • Difficulty bending the knee • A feeling that your knee is “locked” in place. It’s important to note that upon first occurrence of the injury, you might not even realize the severity. While a torn meniscus can cause initial pain, sometimes the pain is only slight. In many cases, athletes can even continue to play through the pain. It’s a few hours later, once the inflammation begins to set in, that the pain may start to become more severe. So What causes a torn Meniscus? As said previously, it doesn’t take much to damage your Meniscus. Athletes are particularly prone to this type of injury because they are constantly running and pivoting, and all it takes is a forceful rotation to your knee for your meniscus to tear. With that being said, you don’t have to be an athlete to cause a tear. Heavy lifting, kneeling, squatting, and other regular daily activities can also cause meniscus concerns. As we age, our risk of a meniscus tear becomes ever greater, and degenerative changes can turn even the slightest knee twist into a tear. So Do I need to see a doctor? The good news is that not all Meniscus tears require a visit to the doctor. The treatment, therefore, really depends on the severity of the tear. For less severe tears, home treatments like rest, ice, compressions, elevation of the knee, stretching, and the use of anti-inflammatory medications may be enough to dull the pain and heal your injury at home. With that being said, more severe injuries may require a simple surgery. How do you know the difference? If your injury is to the point where you cannot bend your knee, or it feels like it is “locking” up, that is a good reason to visit your doctor. Pain and swelling that is recurring or that will not dissipate also suggests that a doctor’s care may be necessary.
