BLUblox

The podcast is sponsored by BLUblox. I have become so passionate about light optimization recently, and filtering out computer light and blue light entirely after the sun sets. I wasn’t doing anything about this until about a year ago, and I was experiencing eye strain, migraines, and an unexplained wired and tired feeling, especially at night. Now I wear BLUblox computer filter glasses anytime I’m looking at screens, and BLUblox sleep lenses at night, and I haven’t experienced symptoms since.

BLUblox was created because they saw the need for a product that was exactly in line with the peer-reviewed academic literature. There are a lot of cheaply made lenses out there that don’t actually block all the blue and green light. Don’t waste your time on that, go to blublox.com/wellfed, and use the code WELLFED for 15% off.

BiOptimzers

When I talk about blood sugar, a lot of people tune out because they think it’s only relevant to people with type 2 diabetes. But blood sugar is a topic everybody needs to understand.

Maintaining healthy blood sugar levels is vital to your health but the question is, how do you do it?

One way is to reduce your intake of processed carbohydrates and make sure you eat fat, protein, fiber, and greens at most meals.

But none of us is perfect. We all cheat sometimes. So it just makes sense to have a way to maintain healthy blood sugar day in, day out, even if you have an “off” day.

That’s why I recommend a product called Blood Sugar Breakthrough by BiOptimizers. This easy to take supplement is the result of numerous tests to find the absolute best formula for maintaining healthy blood sugar. In fact, BiOptimizers went through 5 different formulations before landing on this one.

Blood Sugar Breakthrough works to safely lower blood sugar after meals so that you can maintain a healthy weight and redirect carbs to your muscles where they can be burned for energy.

Today you can get 10% OFF with our coupon code.

8 Signs Of Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer remains the second most common cause of death from cancer among men, and the American Cancer Society predicts an estimated 191,930 new cases for 2020, an increase of about 17k from 2019. The risk of developing prostate cancer increases significantly after the age of 65, and one in nine men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.

Many cases of prostate cancer are discovered during routine blood work that reveals an elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level – a possible indicator of prostate cancer. If you have any of the following symptoms, it could be an indication of concern and should prompt you to contact your physician:

  1. Frequent urges to urinate, especially at night
  2. Difficulty starting urination or stopping mid-stream
  3. Weak or interrupted urinary flow
  4. Painful or burning urination
  5. Erectile dysfunction
  6. Painful ejaculation
  7. Blood in urine or semen
  8. Recurrent, persistent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips or upper thighs

Is There A Mineral That Can Help You Age Gracefully?

According to Bruce Ames, Ph.D., of the University of California, Berkeley, when certain vital micronutrients are in short supply, the body undergoes slow, insidious changes that undermine health and increase the risk of chronic disease.

One such crucial micronutrient is selenium. Dr. Ames and his fellow researchers recently analyzed 25 studies to judge the activity of immune-system components called selenoproteins – which, as the name suggests, contain selenium as an essential component. His conclusion? Even “modest” selenium deficiency appears to be associated with age-related diseases and conditions such as cancer, heart disease and immune dysfunction.

Excellent dietary sources of selenium include Brazil nuts (in fact, these should be eaten only occasionally, as their unusually high levels of this vital mineral could lead to an overdose, according to the National Institutes of Health). Other dietary sources include brewer’s yeast, wheat germ, garlic, truly whole grains, sunflower seeds, walnuts, raisins, shellfish, and both fresh and saltwater fish. If you need it in supplement form, I recommend an organic form such as yeast-bound selenium or selenomethionine. It is commonly paired with zinc for thyroid hormone support.

Are Your Hands As Clean As You Think?

Many people – especially children – can be careless about washing their hands, which can lead to the spread of infection. Washing your hands is not only quick and cost-effective, but the best way to protect yourself and others from spreading germs. Wash your hands:

  • Before you pick up anything to eat
  • Before, during and after preparing food
  • After using the toilet, changing a baby’s diaper, or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
  • After you blow your nose or sneeze
  • After touching garbage.

In addition, be extra sure to wash your hands before and after caring for someone who is sick and after touching pets, animal food or waste.

So, what’s the best way to wash your hands? Good old soap and water: work up a lather and scrub well, cleaning the backs of the hands, between the fingers and under the nails. Doing this should take about 20 seconds, or the length of time it takes to repeat the alphabet twice; afterwards rinse and dry on a clean towel or under an air dryer.

If soap and water aren’t available, try an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol – but note that these products don’t eliminate all types of germs, and aren’t effective when hands are visibly dirty. These alcohol-based options are fine in a pinch, but for regular use look for some of the new herbal, non-alcohol-based sanitizers at your local health food shop. They tend to be less toxic and drying to the skin. The downside is that currently there is no known evidence that these herbal options are as effective against the SARS-CoV2 virus, so it is better to use alcohol presently.

And skip the antibacterial soaps and gels for home use – in healthcare settings there is a need, but at home, there is no proven purpose for them, and they may be counterproductive by accelerating the development of resistance to antibiotics.

5 Warning Signs Of Alzheimer’s Disease

Over 30 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Use this list to help to distinguish between the expected memory deficits that accompany aging and early signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Talk with your physician if you or a family member are displaying any of these symptoms:

  1. Memory loss that disrupts daily life. This common sign of Alzheimer’s includes forgetting important dates, events and recently learned information, as well as repeatedly asking for the same information and relying on others for completion of previously routine tasks. Know that common short-term memory concerns, such as where you put the keys, is less likely to be Alzheimer’s related.
  2. Planning and problem-solving challenges. Common examples are taking a long time to complete familiar, simple tasks such as developing a plan, working with numbers, following directions (such as a recipe) or keeping track of monthly bills.
  3. Familiar tasks become unfamiliar. It may be difficult to complete daily, routine tasks such as driving to a familiar location, reciting much-used phone numbers, or remembering the rules of favorite games.
  4. Confusion about time or place. Losing track of dates, where you are or how you got there, and the general passage of time without recognition is a sign of Alzheimer’s.
  5. Trouble understanding visual images, difficulty reading, judging distance, determining color or contrast, and confusion as to what is reflected in a mirror may affect some people with Alzheimer’s.

4 Simple Steps To Better Rest And Sleep

If you are having trouble sleeping, you aren’t alone – about one-third of the adult population worldwide experiences insomnia at least occasionally. And for most of us, the quality of our sleep will decrease at some point in our lives. While different types of insomnia have different causes, most people can find relief through the following, regardless of the source of their sleeplessness:

  • Establish a consistent bedtime routine, and try to go to bed at the same time every night. This should include minimal to no screen time leading up to getting into bed and making the room as dark as possible.
  • Get plenty of activity during the day. The more energy you expend during the day, the more ready the body is for rest at bedtime. Aim for vigorous exercise that occurs earlier in the day as to not impact sleep negatively. If evening workouts are the only way you can get it, then just assess how it may or may not impact sleep.
  • Reduce or eliminate your intake of caffeine, stimulants, sweeteners and alcohol. Even when consumed early in the day, these can affect sleep.
  • Be mindful. Performing nightly guided meditations, breathing exercises or a hypnotherapy track can be incredibly supportive of a good night’s rest. Try an app, one of my breathing exercises for relaxation, or seek out a certified hypnotherapy provider in your area.

Want To Shed Pounds? Reach For The Almonds!

You’ve heard it dozens of times – nuts are good for you, but don’t eat too many because they are full of fat and calories. However, research indicates that the reality is somewhat more complex – and that’s good news for nut-lovers who are watching their weight. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition revealed that while a handful (about 22 kernels) of almonds contains 170 calories, only 129 calories are actually absorbed by the body. The rest are passed without absorption, because the protein and fat in them are relatively hard to digest. Even better news – after one daily handful of almonds, three percent of the calories you consume for the next 24 hours are rendered indigestible. That means if you eat 2,000 calories in a day, the almonds you ate in the morning will remove about 60 calories from that total. The effect probably applies to other kinds of nuts, although only almonds have been rigorously studied. So, enjoy your nuts on a daily basis- their monounsaturated fat content appears to lower cardiovascular risk. Opt for the least processed versions possible from raw to lightly toasted and salted yourself. While almond flour is becoming popular, do not confuse the benefits of whole almonds with a processed flour. Aim to consume your nuts in their natural state as often as possible.

Imagine combining a daily almond routine with regular strenuous exercise. This duo would allow you to keep your calorie intake stable while keeping hunger at bay yet burn more calories than ever!

Eating To Prevent Prostate Cancer

While modern science continues to add to the body of knowledge about what causes cancer, there are immediate steps men can take to protect themselves from possible cancer-causing agents.

One of the most basic ways to protect your immune system is to avoid foods sprayed with chemical pesticides. Choose organically grown fruits and vegetables instead. Certain pesticides have been shown to act as endocrine disruptors – chemical compounds that may affect the body’s hormone balance and therefore health. Natural pesticides such as pyrethrum, neem, rotenone and ryania have low toxicity. If you must buy produce sprayed with chemical pesticides, thoroughly wash and peel the skin whenever possible. A key way to optimize your produce from chemicals is to pay regular attention to the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen and prioritize purchasing those items in their organic forms. Better yet, consider growing your own produce or seeking local options from growers that avoid chemical treatments.

Another way to protect yourself is to reduce your consumption of animal fats. Cut down on meat, poultry, whole milk and whole-milk products (including butter and cheese). Studies have shown that dioxins and other potential endocrine disruptors tend to accumulate in animal fat. Plus, cutting down on consumption will have the secondary benefit of reducing your intake of saturated fat. Be sure to switch them out for healthy foods from healthy sources, like wild-caught seafood and nuts.

The following may also help you limit your exposure:

  • Drink only pure, filtered or distilled water.
  • Eat a diet rich in organic produce and whole grains.
  • Get regular aerobic exercise at least four days per week.
